Baltimore Go Club Meetup

Baltimore Go Club Meetup

The Baltimore Go Club meets at No Land Beyond every Thursday starting at 6:30pm. Come out and challenge members of the club or learn to play this ancient strategy game.

Go is an abstract strategy board game for two players, in which the aim is to surround more territory than the opponent. The game was invented in China more than 2,500 years ago and is believed to be the oldest board game continuously played to the present day.

Despite its relatively simple rules, Go is very complex. Compared to chess, Go has both a larger board with more scope for play and longer games, and, on average, many more alternatives to consider per move. The lower bound on the number of legal board positions in Go has been estimated to be 2 × 10170 which is greater than the number of atoms in the universe.

Riichi Mahjong Club

Come learn how to play Riichi Mahjong! You've probably seen mahjong tiles in the solitaire matching game. But this Japanese multiplayer variant is like a mixture of poker and rummy that you play with tiles. But you can't just fold if you have a bad hand! You have to carefully navigate each draw and discard to stay alive. You never really know how much danger you (or your opponents) might be in! Riichi is the premier way to play in the US, and we want to expand our local playgroup and teach everyone how great this game is. Practically infinite depth achieved with simple base mechanics. Lots of room for personal style, too! No experience or familiarity required.

Pre-Modern MTG Meetup
May

7:00 PM19:00

Pre-Modern MTG Meetup

Come out and check out the exciting magic format Pre-Modern!

Premodern is a community-created constructed format consisting of the sets from Fourth Edition to Scourge. The card pool thus roughly spans the period inbetween the formats 93/94 and Modern. A rule of thumb for the card pool is: all cards with the old frame printed between 1995 and 2003, which were standard legal at some point during this period. Portal and promo cards are thus not legal (sorry, Nalathni Dragon). See the list of all legal sets here, or you can browse the entire card pool here.

Bring your own pre-modern decks or grab one of the decks created by our local community meetup organizer! There will also be “promos” given out for participation and deck creativity!

No entry fee, starts at 7pm
